The 2010s were quite a remarkable time for cinema. The 10 year period was home to various all-time box office favorites.
Today’s infographic takes a look at some of the many memorable films produced during the 2010s, namely the 25 highest-grossing films of the decade.
As the infographic shows, the 2010s were dominated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) from Marvel Entertainment. The MCU is not only the highest-grossing film franchise of the 2010s, but the highest-grossing film franchise of all time, making more than $22.5 billion worldwide. Marvel is also responsible for the highest-grossing film of all time, Avengers: Endgame. This film brought in $2.7 billion worldwide, dethroning the previous titleholder, James Cameron’s Avatar from 2009.
However, the true winner of the decade is Disney. Disney actually owns Marvel Entertainment, along with the very profitable Lucasfilm and their legendary Star Wars franchise. Disney has also been a powerhouse in the entertainment and animation industry, and this has continued well into the 21st century. As a result, the profit from all of these properties puts Disney firmly at the top in terms of making money, accounting for 64.8% of all box office business.
